Jodie Friend is a native Hoosier from Seymour, Indiana, living in Bloomington since 1974. After a lengthy career as a fundraiser and writer for the Indiana University Athletic Department, Friend decided to pursue a lifelong interest in art. She took her inspiration from many talented teachers including Quang Ho, Laura Robb, Ken Auster, Carolyn Anderson and Ron Mack.
Living in the country of beautiful Monroe County, Friend finds her most favorite subject matters are the Hoosier landscape, the wild animals that visit daily and the flowers that populate the area. Working in oils from her home studio, she finds the joy in painting is when the concerns of the world drop away, and the inspiration flows through to the canvas. It is her hope that this joy is evident to the viewers of her paintings and that they feel themselves a participant in the creation.
